March 29th 2006 Total eclipse

We (Emma and I) were in Club Voyage Sorgun, Side, Southern Turkey which is about an hours coach trip from Antalya. The weather at our location couldn't have been better, despite thin cloud to the West and a few thicker clouds to the East our view was uninterrupted from start to finish. The images of the partial stages were taken through the PST mostly in 'white light' mode, the first image of totality was taken though a Canon powershot A70. A large number of astronomers with various scopes and cameras were staying at our hotel and most gathered along the seafront on the day which made for a great atmosphere.

The following images were taken by Günay Alembeyli, the resident photographer at Club Voyage Sorgun, who kindly gave us his permission to reproduce them here.

These additional images were taken by a friend of Günay's from the harbour in Side.  He also created a short video compilation of images set to the Star Wars theme tune. This clip, along with all the images, was available on a CD from Günay, who has been playing it on a loop since the eclipse.  He estimates that he hears the theme approximately 5,000 times per day - possibly some kind of record!

October 3rd 2005 Annular eclipse

We were in Javea, which lies approximately half way between Alicante and Valencia on the Spanish coast. As can be seen from the pictures much of the eclipse was marred by cloud, with only brief glimpses until after mid eclipse... frustratingly but not uncommonly the view from just a few miles up the coast was perfect. The skies did miraculously clear after third contact and we were able to obtain some un-obscured images. All the images were taken using the Phillips ToUcam PRO ll.

152mm (6") F/5 Schmidt-Newtonian images

Five images of the Moon using a Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 at the Newtonian focus of our Schmidt-Newtonian telescope. Comparing these to the images below taken with our Newtonian telescope clearly shows the difference in image scale and field of view between the two scopes.
152mm (6") F/8 Newtonian images

More Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 images. The first two images of the Moon (and those of Saturn) were taken at F/16 using a 2x achromatic Barlow. The next five lunar images were taken at the Newtonian focus.

The pictures below were taken using the Phillips ToUcam PRO ll and eyepiece projection through a 10mm eyepiece. For Saturn we used the same setup but with 7mm eyepiece.

127mm F/9.5 Refractor Images

A collection of images taken through our 127mm Achromatic refractor. Including a collage of the moon and a huge sunspot which was taken at the prime focus on 30th April 05 approx 15:00 UT.
