Candle Care and Safety
Candle Safety
We want you to get the best results from your candles. The following tips will ensure that you do so safely.
- Remove all packaging and decoration before lighting
- Ensure candles are securely placed in an appropriate holder
- Never leave a burning candle in an empty room
- Place candles at least 10cm apart, away from draughts and flammable materials such as curtains, and ensure that there is ample room above for the flame to burn safely
- Keep candles away from children and pets
- Take care not to damage the wick, or drop foreign objects such as match heads, into the wax pool
- Never touch or move a holder containing a burning candle
- Votive candles and tealights liquify when lit. Ensure that the container is undamaged, made of suitable material and capable of containing hot molten wax
- Do not allow the flame to come into contact with the candle holder. Dispose of any candle once it has burnt to within one inch of the holder.
- Use caution when extinguishing a candle to avoid spattering hot wax or spreading sparks. For safest results, use a candle snuffer or the bowl of a spoon
Candle Care
- The first time you light your pillar candle, allow it to burn until the liquid wax covers the entire top of the candle (approximately one hour per inch of diameter). This 'opens up' your candle and prevents it from boring a deep hole down the centre
- Do not position candles in direct sunlight as this may cause them to fade
- To prevent smoking, trim the wick to approx 1cm prior to each use
- Store candles in a cool, dry and dark place. Tapers should be stored flat to prevent warping
If you have any scented wax left at the end of your candle, break the wax into small pieces and place small amounts into the well of an oil burner (don't add water). Light the burner and it will melt the wax, releasing the scent.
